Since the 16th of June we are in the prairies.
The first day it is YAHOO, when it is finally flat with a back wind as it is possible to
advance very fast without any effort.
After 3 days cycling in the Albertan prairies we arrive on the 19th of June in Walsh, which is at the board between Alberta and Saskatchewan. We had stormy, cloudy weather during that time.
On the 20th Gaetan and I decided to take another road, and to separate.
Going to Sage Grouse
In order to go to Sage Grouse, where the extension of the Dam generate issues for foxes, in Maple creek I went south going on the road 21. I then took east on the 13.
The road is much nicer than the Trans Canadian.
It is a scenic road. At least it is less flat, there are some hills. Moreover countryside is very nice. That changes from the flat prairies we had been through the previous days.
I wanted to stay overnight in Robsart, however I had been told that I was not welcome here and that I should go to another village, the closest being Eastend, 54 km away. I cycle 161 km
I finally stopped just before Eastend, where there is the dam on the Frenchman river. The night saw a lot of heavy rain.
On the 21st, it is very cloudy, but dry until midday. It started then to rain. Until Shaunavan I had a very strong front lateral wind. On the afternoon it was raining. However it was a nice ride,
with a very good west wind.
I stopped in Porteix hosted by a David a nice guy from Toronto who moved a couple of months ago in this French community. I cycled 125 km
On the 22 I was keep going on the 13. the road started to be more monotonous, and flat. However I had the chance to see wildlife such as deer's... It was sunny on the morning, and rainy on the
afternoon, and finally sunny again at the end of the day. The road it is a big patchwork which is not the best when cycling. I stopped at Verwood after 137 km.
On the 23rd it was sunny, and not to hot, which is ideal for cycling. The west wind was a good help to advance fast. I finally stopped at Soughton after 201 km. The road was flat and relatively
boring.
On the 23rd has been done 2341 km, the objective was to be in Winnipeg on the 27th of June

The Inland Rainforest.
The WCWC, organized for us to stay in Virginia's house, who is deeply implicated about protecting the Mountain Caribous. She gave
us lots of information about the issues to preserves the few remaining Mountain Caribou.
Even if a perseveration plan has been implemented by the BC government there are still actions to do to save the specie. A deeper analysis would be available later on.
After these 2 rest days, we left Revelstoke to go on the next endangered area.
The Rockies
On the 11th of June we left for the Glacier National park. We stopped just before the park after Canyon hot Springs. We pass the Rogers Pass the day after and had a nice hike there. We then cycle
after the park. We arrive at Golden on the 13th of June. Then after few km before the Yoho National park we saw that there was a big storm. As a result we decided to put the tent and
to stay on the rest area which was a couple of km before the park.
We had the very bad surprise to discover that someone stole the bags of foods.
A band of 25 cyclists from Alberta who were doing a 3 days cycling trip had lots of foods and very kindly offered us some food in order we could go to the next city. We would like to thank you a
lot John and his group for there help.
Due to this bad experience, we decided to go faster. That's why we went across the Rockies within only 2 days. After Lake Louise there is a smaller road the 1A, which is much better than the road
is very nice and we saw some deer's, big horn sheep's...
Kanaski.
Just after the Banff National park there is another park, the Kanaski park. The WCWC is concerns and get involve there due to the fact there are some funding issues about the park. As a result we
decided to stop overnight there.
We then decided to avoid Calgary and we went on the north to the city.
Arriving in the prairies after the mountains was a big yahoo, as we had a back wind and nice lights.
We should arrive in Sage Grouse, close to Medicine hat within 2 days, where we will stop to better understand the natural issues there.

Leaving Seton
On the 03rd of June, after 2 days of rest, working on trails, we left the Lost Valley area to go to the next endangered area.
Due to a fire in Lillooet area, mountains in Seton were full full of smoke on the morning.
We took the 11'30 train to go to Lillooet.
The train go through amazing views on mountains and lakes.
We had the pleasure to see black bears, Mountains goats.
When we arrive in Lillooet it is the hottest time of the day, so we decided to do the shopping and to have a rest. Around 4'30 we cycle again.
Very hot and dry areas
I have been amazed to see the arid area that surround Lillooet. When we left around 4'30 temperature were still around 40 degrees.
Until Kamloops countryside was dry mountains with relatively few trees.
Kamloops to Revelstoke
After Kamloops the temperature were coolers. We switch ranches and river for mountains, lake and forest. We could see again some snow on the top of the mountains around. The road between Kamloops
and Revelstoke is pretty easy and we arrive there with a couple of days in advance.

We spent a couple of hours hiking in Elk creek and sleeping in the area.
On the 28th of May, we left this nice place to go to the 2nd endangered area of the trip which is Lost Valley.
The Gravel road along Harrison lake.
We saw on the backroad map that there was a cycling road going from Harrison mills to Pemberton.
Actually it is a forestry road. The road is going up the hills over the Lake. The view on the lake is amazing. Moreover we enjoyed nice forests.
However the road is very hard to cycle on. Actually hills are very deep. With the heavy load bikes we have we don"t have the choice to push the bikes to go up the hills.
We decided to stop in a scout camp for the night of the 28th. The day after we slept outside closed to a log area. We had the surprised to be awakwe by a bear standing 5 meters away from the
place where we were sleeping.
We had planned to arrive in tibella on the 2nd day. However due to the dirt road we had 1 day late. Actually we only had 1 day late on the planning as a truck offered us to pass the following
15/20 km which were impossible to pass cycling.
The follow the east side of the lilloet River to go to Pemberton. This road was in good shap and relatively flat. It was nice countryside as well.
Finally at 11'30 on the 31st of May we arrived at Pemberton where we thought we could catch the train to go to Seton Portage.
Going to Seton
Arriving in Pemberton we had the bad suprise to discover that there were no trains for Seton. We had to go to Darcy. We decided to itche hike to go in Seton. The road not being adapted to
the bikes we have.
We wait a couple of hours there, and then Bryan gave us a lift. We arrived in Seton arround 12'30.

Elk creek which is the 1st endangered are where we want to stop is located close to Chilliwack.
We left Mission at 10 am. Straight after the bridge to cross the Frazer River we took the trans canadadian trail.

After a 10th easy ride trail the path was going through a very deep gravel hill.
After the climb we enjoyed a nice going down for about 30 minutes.
We arrived at Elk creek arround 4pm.
On Clint's properties we can see the rest of lots of big trees, followed by new young forests. It tooks about 20 minutes to arrive at the preserve area where are the remaining of the old growth
forest.
There is no public access to Elk creek. Arrived in Elk Creek we decided to have a hike there to see how it is and to better understand the issues of this area. We wald in Elk creek during 2 or 3
hours.
Trails are not very accesible as lots of plants obstuct them.
While coming back to Clint's property we had the chance to see a Owl.
